Indoor Finals Report 2019

Indoor finals weekend took place at Huntingdon Indoor Bowls Club on 2-3 March. Many hard fought games were played over the two days.

It started with a three match early Saturday session. In the Ladies Senior Singles it was an all St Ives affair with Jane Baldwin just seeing off Glenys Cousins 21-13.

In the Men’s Senior Singles Somersham’s Chris Millard was narrowly beaten 21-16 by Huntingdon bowler Barry Johnson.

The Under 25 Singles had Sawtry’s Toby Furzeland up against Warboys powerhouse Ed Elmore. A hard fought match ended with Ed winning 21-13.

On to Sunday. in the morning the Men’s Pairs produced the closest of all the results with Ed Elmore and Neil Swannell just easing out Fenstanton pair Dennis Weston and Roger White 16-15.

The Men’s Singles had two Warboys players facing each other. Joe Randall being victorious 21-6 against Steve Farrant.

The Ladies Rinks had a strong St Ives/Sawtry rink of Jane Baldwin, Maddie Leader and Deana Barlow. They came out on top 21-17 against Houghton and Wyton/ Somersham trio Joy Kent Carole Hickey and Pauline Bysouth.

The afternoon session opened with another win for Jane Baldwin this time 21-13 over Sophie Purell of Needingworth in the Ladies Singles.

The Men’s Rinks was another close game between two Warboys rinks. Lyndsey Swannell, Nicky Brett and Lewis Baker lost out to Ed & Rob Elmore and Simon Leader 20-17.

Mixed Pairs was a comfortable win for Ed Elmore and Catherine Popple, Parkway, 26 -4 over Steve Baker, Hemingford and Nicky Verlander, Huntingdon, 

With just two games in the evening the Ladies Pairs saw a win for Sophie Purell, Needingworth and Glenys Cousins, St Ives, 23-16 against St Ives pair Jane Baldwin and Kathy Snitch.

The Mixed Rinks had a convincing win for Warboys’ rink Nicky & Chloe Brett and Ed Elmore 20-7 over Lyndsey Swannell, Warboys Heather McKillop Houghton & Wyton and Joe Randall Warboys.

The winners go on to represent Hunts at the National Finals Newark 23-29 April.
